Smart Mobs

Filed under: Books — mhg @ 5:31 am

Smart Mobs - the latest book by Howard Rheingold who also wrote Virtual Reality which is one of the very first books that I read dealing with the future of IT.

The books web-site is at http://www.smartmobs.com/index.html.

The book is of course a brilliant piece of journalism. But I cannot help thinking afterwards that I have just read one of the longest Wired articles. There is nothing with Wired articles of course. But in order really to learn about Always-On Panopticon…or Cooperation Amplifier, I would prefer to go directly to the sources - e.g. Michel Foucault or Robert Wright.

In the article Ensomme IT-slidere by by Jens Herman Iversen in Berlingske Tidende 16 February 2003 I am quoted as follows:

Der findes ikke nyere tal, der kan give en retningspil på, hvor mange enmandsejede internet-virksomheder, der findes i dag, men Martin von Haller Grønbæk mener, at der er mange. Han er advokat med speciale i IT og rådgivning til iværksættere, og han var medstifter af Foreningen for Dansk Internet Handel.

Filed under: Gadgets — mhg @ 2:42 am

Finally it arrived. Just last Wednesday 12 February 2003 I recieved from InnovationSHOP my all new mobile phone - the SonyEricsson P800.

It is truly a wonderful piece of communication equipment. Until tonight everything worked smoothly. The symbian OS never crashed. I even installed the new Opera browser for the P800.

But then tonight the phone just died. Went totally blank. Now I got to waste precious time returning it. Hmmm.

Openness vs. secrecy in IT-security

In the February 15, 2003 issue of CRYPTO-GRAM, Bruce Schneier of Counterpane provides a persuasive argument for why security properties of different systems, including IT and locks, are better of being open to public scrutiny instead of being kept secret.
