I know Mark Hindsbo from mutual association with the Danish eBusiness Association, Aquadux and Worknet. The last few years Mark has been in charge on the .Net initiative at Microsoft Denmark. Now Mark is leaving for a big job in Microsoft Headquarters Redmond, OR. Before his departure we had lunch at Microsoft offices at Tuborg Havn, Copenhagen. A good discussion on open standards, monopolies, the right to innovate and open source was had :-)

The smaller Rune Stone

Filed under: Miscellanous — mhg @ 1:03 am

During Vilhelms, Jeannes and my holiday this August in Jutland we visited Jelling Kirke where you will find some of the oldest stones in Denmark with carved Rune inscriptions. The stones were erected some thousands years by Harald Blaatand (Bluetooth). Harald Blaatand was the first christian Danish king but is from a more neerdish perspective better known as having given name to the Bluetooth standard for wireless communication.

There are two Rune stones outside Jelling church. To us however, the smaller one (in the picture above) erected by King Gorm den Gamle (the Old) is more interesting of the two. We have at home in the courtyard of Admiral Gjeddes Gaard a replicate en miniature of it.

This extremely hot afternoon - Sunday 10 August 2003 - I spent in Sorgenfri Kirke, where my mother served as priest some ten years ago - at a wonderful koncert with the Russian/Austrian pianist Maria Raszwetaeva. The program was Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Skriabin. Fantastic music and performer!
