Copenhagen, NYJeg er netop vendt hjem fra New Yo…

Filed under: Miscellanous — mhg @ 10:39 am

Henrik Moltke visits Copenhagen, Denmark, New York :-)

Copenhagen, NY

Mere herom her (The Guardian), og her (Støttekommitéen). Dokumentaren burde være færdig omkring midt februar.

På vejen kørte jeg forbi den lille landsby Copenhagen, NY - der ovenikøbet ligger i kommunen Denmark - og som prominente folk som Biker Jens før mig har været forbi. Billeder her - mere følger.

Denmark bottoms out in Firefox adoption

Filed under: Internet policy, Open source — mhg @ 5:16 pm

This is exactly why supporting the recent initiative (in Danish) by Morten Helveg Petersen, MP from the SocialLiberals, to demand that the Danish public sector adopt an open standard policy is so important.

Denmark bottoms out in Firefox adoption: “

Firefox market share in DKAccording to XiTiMonitor, the European average for Firefox adoption is the best in the world with around 20%. Front-runner countries like Finland does even better with 38%. But the numbers for Denmark are as disappointing as can be. With just 10%, we’re ranking third to last in a list of 32. Roughly half the adoption of our friends in Sweden.

To anyone paying attention to governmental and bank policies, this should hardly come as a surprise, though. The last couple of years is fraught with embarrassments of discrimination and bias from public web projects. From the university application portal to my own bank to videos on the public TV station, Internet Explorer continues to reign supreme or exclusive in the mind of decision makers.

So its no surprise that Firefox’s market share is abysmal in Denmark compared to the rest of Europe. It must surely be one of the favorite nations on the globe in Redmond. What an accomplishment.

23 is my new photo sharing community

Filed under: New media — mhg @ 5:01 pm

My preferred photo sharing service is now 23 Photo Sharing

Why is that?

First because the people behind 23 are people that I know and trust. My photos are personal stuff and I feel better, if they are handled by people that I can talk to.

Second, Flickr is now owned by Yahoo and that automatically makes me somewhat suspicious. Nothing wrong with Flickr and Yahoo and the fact that they are in it for the money. Don’t get me wrong, I think that it is great that innovative people like those behind Flickr get a good exit. But the minute you become part of a large organization you loose (to a very large extent) the entrepreneurial passion that made you create innovative stuff without regard to existing structures. Now Flickr has to make money and to fit into the Yahoo universe, which is not bad, but not what I signed up for to Flickr in the first place.

Third, 23 seems to be truly open and collaborative service - and will probably remain so until they get their exit too :-)
